Description

A friend asked me to color a drawing another friend had done in their sketch book. So just to clarify, I DID NOT draw this one, I just colored it.

This piece was a great way to get practice coloring and shading. I was able to do this fairly quickly, I have requested Critiques on COLORING STYLE ONLY do not critique on the drawing, just the coloring.

This was a piece that :iconpineapple-snail: had drawn, and :iconmorsolo: asked me to color.

Be sure to check out :iconpineapple-snail: other work.

The overall lighting is consistent, and appears to be from the upper right of the picture. The figure still looks a bit flat except for the front of both thighs and possibly the forearm of the spear hand. Using light and shadow to make the abs and "V" muscles on the neck is a great technique. Applying that to the rest of his body should help eliminate the flatness. The "V" muscles on the neck should angle outward from the collarbone end to the angle of the jaw.
The stripes themselves accurately reflect the way they appeared in the movie with the lighter center outlined by a dark margin. Placement and direction of travel are off a bit.
Except for the face, the stripes always seem to be perpendicular to the long axis of whatever body part they cover. For example, the shoulder stripes should be oriented horizontally and extend partway onto his chest. The midline of the body is left unstriped, but the inside of the arms and legs should also be unstriped.
The bioluminescent dots are not restricted to the backside of his body, unless you are meaning for the light to drown out the ones that should be on the front of his body.
The spearhead had to be tricky to make 3D with just color tones, but that did work.
You've got the color tones for the stripes down-now just work on having them bring out the contours of the figure.
